Author Biography


Amy L. Abbey holds an MPH from CUNY/Hunter
College, has been a Health Educator since 1987 and a Certified Health Education
Specialist (CHES) since 1991. She is past President of the Greater New York
Society for Public Health Education and has written pieces for Skyline
(the Chapter newsletter) and for
News & Views, the national Society for Public Health Education newsletter.
Amy designed promotional campaigns while employed with the New York State
Department of Health and the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation.
Amy’s career as a
Health Educator has afforded her vast experience speaking to both lay and
professional audiences. Her experiences as a bereaved parent have brought her
to the podium as well. She was a panel speaker at the first annual Pregnancy
Loss conference sponsored by Winthrop University Hospital (Mineola, New York,
2002). Amy was a keynote speaker at the Tyler Ford Bialek Foundation annual
fundraiser (NY, 2001). She continues to speak at both pregnancy loss and
pregnancy after loss groups, and including the Long Island chapter of
National
SHARE.
Amy participated
in the Bereavement Track planning committee for the First Candle/SIDS Alliance
second annual conference held in collaboration with the International Stillbirth
Alliance, September 2005. She moderated the “Questions & Answers about
Stillbirth” workshop, whose main presenter was
Dr. Michael Berman,
and spoke at the “Creating Memories” workshop. She also prepared the Continuing
Education packet for Certified Health Education Specialists.
